Copyright Policy

1. Copyright and Open Access

Open Veterinary Journal (OVJ) is a fully open-access journal committed to the broad and responsible dissemination of scholarly research. All published articles are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication, subject to the terms of the applicable license.

The journal supports the principle that scholarly research should be accessible to researchers, veterinary professionals, educators, policymakers, and the public worldwide, while respecting the copyright and intellectual property rights of authors and third parties.

2. Copyright Ownership

Authors retain copyright in their published work, subject to the rights granted to the public under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0) and the terms of the applicable publishing agreement.

Copyright ownership remains with the authors unless otherwise expressly stated in relation to a particular article or third-party material.

Retention of copyright enables authors to maintain ownership of their intellectual work while allowing broad non-commercial access, sharing, and reuse in accordance with the applicable Creative Commons license.

3. Licensing of Published Articles

Unless otherwise stated for specific content, all articles published by Open Veterinary Journal are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Under this license, users may:

• Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.

• Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material.

These rights are subject to the conditions of the CC BY-NC 4.0 license, including:

4. Attribution and Responsible Reuse

5. Author Rights and Dissemination

6. Third-Party Material

The CC BY-NC 4.0 license applies to material for which the authors or journal have the necessary rights to grant the license. Some articles may contain third-party material, including photographs, figures, illustrations, tables, datasets, or other copyrighted content, that is not covered by the article's Creative Commons license.

Where third-party material is subject to separate copyright or licensing conditions, the applicable restrictions should be identified in the article or accompanying credit information.

Authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions for third-party material where required and for providing appropriate attribution and rights statements.

Users wishing to reuse third-party material are responsible for determining whether additional permission is required from the relevant rights holder.

7. Copyright and Editorial Independence

Copyright ownership and licensing arrangements do not affect the editorial independence of Open Veterinary Journal.

All manuscripts remain subject to the journal's editorial policies, peer-review procedures, publication ethics requirements, and research-integrity standards regardless of copyright ownership, funding arrangements, or licensing considerations.

8. Website and Other Journal Materials

The CC BY-NC 4.0 license applies to published articles as specified above and does not automatically apply to all materials appearing on the OVJ website.

The journal name, logo, trademarks, website design, graphics, software, databases, and other proprietary materials may be protected by applicable intellectual property laws and may not be reused without appropriate authorization unless otherwise expressly stated.

Third-party materials displayed on the journal website may also be subject to separate copyright or licensing conditions.

10. Copyright and Post-Publication Changes

Copyright ownership does not prevent the journal from maintaining the integrity of the published scholarly record. Such actions are taken to maintain an accurate and transparent scientific record and do not, by themselves, alter the underlying copyright ownership of the article.
