Full-thickness autologous mesh skin grafting for chronic cutaneous wound closure in a cat: A case report

Abstract
Background:
Chronic cutaneous wound healing is a major challenge in feline patients. Typically, management of these wounds depends on advanced wound dressings and reconstructive surgical techniques.

Case Description:
A castrated male domestic shorthair cat, aged 8 months, presented with a chronic wound extending into the cranial thoracic area on the ventral cervical region. The cat underwent unsuccessful wound reconstruction using the skin flap technique, followed by injections of autologous platelet-rich plasma. Bacterial wound culture and histopathological examination were performed, followed by wound reconstruction using a full-thickness mesh skin graft. Postoperative management included pradofloxacin, meloxicam, gabapentin, topical amikacin, wound dressing, and laser therapy. The cat was discharged 24 days postoperatively, and complete wound healing was achieved in 66 days without any scar contraction complications.

Conclusion:
Full-thickness mesh skin grafting is an effective reconstructive technique for chronic wound management in cats. The observed favorable graft integration and wound healing outcomes support its clinical applicability in feline wound reconstruction.
