Abstract
Background: A very short is established about the blood biochemical profile of Pakistani camel. The aim of this study was assayed blood biochemical parameters in Marecha dromedary camels of both sex reared in farm desert ecology. Material and methods: About 14 camels were splitted into G1 - of four males (non-rutting) and G2 - of ten females (non-pregnant) kept in half-opened housing, feeding done with concentrate, straws and browsed and water two times a day. Deworming and vaccination was practiced on three months’ interval. Haemoglobin (Hb), hematochemical parameters and minerals were assayed. Result: The Hb mean concentration was significantly higher in males than females (15.16±0.79 and 14.46±0.68 g/dl, respectively). Cholesterol and triglycerides mean concentrations were higher in male camels than females (60.18±5.24, 37.44±4.16 and 58.32±4.88, 34.98±4.12 in G1 and G2 respectively), while the glucose concentration was found higher in she-camels. Mean values of total proteins, albumins and globulin were significantly higher in males than females (8.12±1.66, 4.06±1.28, 3.86±0.92 and 6.96±1.22, 3.16±1.44, 3.28±1.26 in G1 and G2 respectively). No significant differences among two groups on urea and creatinine were observed. In mineral analysis calcium and phosphorus mean concentrations were 9.82±1.26, 4.72±1.12 and 9.39±1.18, 4.33±0.98 respectively, in G1 and G2. Conclusion: The results, which could be used as a baseline for future studies, are discussed in relation to reported literature data.
